Orwell

Nuray & Stuart Mills

Our names are Stuart and Nuray Mills. We have been the Local Guardians for House Guardianships since 2019 for the Orwell area (around Colchester & Ipswich). We are keen to make the Orwell area another popular destination with students. We are both qualified English as Foreign Language teachers and have experience in working with young people from abroad.

We are parents ourselves and understand time spent away from home can be challenging for both children and parents. We are keen to enable all students in our area to achieve the maximum benefits from the opportunities that arise during their stay and to have a happy and enjoyable experience in the UK. We believe that we can achieve this by providing the best possible levels of service and care for the students and keeping close communication links with both students and the parents.

In our spare time we like travelling both in the UK and abroad. We do regular walks and cycle rides, visits to countryside. We enjoy family days out and socialising with our friends. Together with our son we are learning to play drums, guitar and piano.

About the Area

Both Colchester and Ipswich have an excellent selection of private and state schools and they are within easy reach to London, Cambridge, Norwich and Clacton. In addition to the academic opportunities in the area, both towns have much more to offer.

Colchester (in Essex) is Britain's oldest recorded town. Its history dates back over 2000 years. Colchester is famous for its castle, the park and its zoo. It has picturesque town and villages nearby. Mersea Island is famous for its oysters and Tiptree is famous for its jam production. John Constable, one of England’s famous painters lived in nearby Dedham village. This area is also known as ‘Constable Country’.

Ipswich (in Suffolk) is another historic town in England. It is famous for its maritime history. You could take a stroll in its parks or along the waterfront, sail down the River Orwell and visit farms and museums in the surrounding area.

Or simply explore the fantastic shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries and leisure facilities in both towns.
